Varnávas
The Community of
Varnavas has a population of 2,500, most are self-employed, a few are
farmers. There is a new creche, a Kindergarten and a First Grade School.
The Community has a pharmacy, bakeries, cafes and super markets. There
is a bank in nearby Kapandriti. The
beach of Varnavas, which has fish tavernas and cafes, is 12 km from the
centre.
Varnavas is very
close to the beaches of Marathon, Schoinias and Nea Makri, Marathon
Lake, Oropos, Kalamos, and a lot of other interesting places for
excursions.
The
community is served by the train in Ag. Stefanos and 3 taxis that are
established in Varnavas. There are also 5 buses per day for the Pedio
tou Areos in Athens.
Furthermore, via the motorway, Varnavas is very close to the rest of
Greece.
Over
the last years Varnavas has grown, both in terms of inhabitants as well
as services, thus attracting more and more newcomers.
Various
activities are performed and celebrated at Varnavas during the summer,
including St. Peter & Paul on 29th June, the great cultural festival
called Cultural Summer - "...The Sea's Waves" performed every summer at
the end of July at Varnavas Beach and Cultural Varnavas every September.
A number of other events are also performed during the year by the
Varnavas' Community and the village's numerous associations (Women's
Association, Youth Association, Painting Laboratory For Children, and
Folklore Museum).
